Why North Korea’s Latest Missile Test Was Humiliating Blow to US Missile Defense

Theodore Postol, a scientist from MIT, has been a critic for years of American anti-missile technology.

He has said many times that America’s anti-missile technology simply cannot do what it is supposed to do.

The technology simply does not exist to stop an ICBM warhead, much less a group of warheads and accompanied by decoys. And an IRBM or airborne cruise missile leaves even less response time.

Virtually all of the American tests are contrived, none of them reflecting real-war conditions.

My guess is the reluctance to even attempt shooting down a North Korean missile reflects exactly this uncertainty. How utterly embarrassing it would be to fail.
